My magazine proposal

DRAFT COPY OF DPS

Jay Anti is an up and coming rapper who is set to take the UK rap scene by storm. His name is going to be remembered for a long time. The hype over him hasn’t gone unnoticed; underground kings such as Ghetts have described him as ‘one of the best around’ and Krept and Konan believe he could ‘compete with anybody in the rap game’. I caught up with him to see how he’s coping with bursting onto the scene.

What’s your aspirations for the future?
I don’t want to settle for second best. I believe I can go all the way. There’s a bit of a gap in the scene at the moment, with a few rappers stepping off the pace, but I’m going to make sure that I can grasp at the opportunity to work my way up. Once people start recognising my talent, they will realise that I am not one of them joke rappers that come on the scene for a bit, diss a few people and step off again. I’m here for the long run.

Who are your role models?
I look up to a few people. Someone that I believe has done a great job is Skepta. Not a lot of people know but he went toe to toe with Kanye at one point. Lyrically, Skepta is on a different level. I see what he’s done and I think if I go all the way like he has it means I have done well. Obviously, Kendrick is up there. I liked the way he brought something new to the rap game. His verse on control killed the rap game and he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind like some of the rappers today. That’s how I am. Jay Z and Kanye are the kings in hip hop. No one can touch them because of the power they have. Both of them are outspoken.

Has 2013 been a good year or bad year for hip hop/rap?
When you think about all the album releases that have were going to come out this year, A$AP ROCKY, Jay Z, Pusha T, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Ferg, J Cole, Drake and so on, it looked it would be a big year. But to be honest, it wasn’t all that. Pusha T’s album in my opinion was album of the year but no one even recognised it. It was a good year for the critics.

How would you describe yourself?
I’m anti, that’s where the name comes from. Don’t get on my bad side because if something is going to happen, it will happen to you. I am determined to keep myself in this game and make sure I conquer it, there is nothing or no one that will be able to stop me achieving it.

How does it feel to be recognised as such a great player in the game?
I don’t let myself become light headed with compliments like some of the fake rappers would do. That’s the difference between me and them, I don’t need someone to tell me that I’m great, because i’ve always known that myself. All it is, is that someone big has heard me and it does feel good; knowing that someone who I’ve been listening to is doing the same thing back...but that’s it, that is all it is.

What’s next for Anti Jay?

My EP is coming out in March, and it’s going to be big. There are big name collaborations on it. Original songs, remixes, you name it. It’s going to be the biggest step of my career so far, and I’m looking forward to it. We’ve nearly completed it but we just have a few finishing touches to put on it.

  1. Luqman, you need to start uploading your work as a matter of urgency. You seem to have the majority of tasks missing. You also need to amend the production schedule, and make it relevant to your own work. You have shown some drafting and planning in the proposal, but this needs more depth to it. Also you need to upload the college contents page, and not just the college magazine front cover. Zaf.
